Overview

Safety Specialist Position Summary

The Safety Specialist will conduct day to day activities that are compliance, safety, or enivonmental related. This position will implement, manage and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements.

Responsibilities

Safety Specialist Responsibilities                                                      

  • Ensure operating company compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to health and safety
  • Monitor employees, processes, and equipment to ensure active compliance in following all ISO and OSHA standards and procedures
  • Manage the operating company Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) database
  • Provide enironmental, health and safety (EHS) support, guidance, and oversight to manufacturing personnel
  • Conduct and cooridnate employee safety and environmental training programs
  • Support workplace safety committees for all operating company sites
  • Lead meaningful incident investigations to identify root cause(s), create action plan(s), and ensure implementation of preventative measures
  • Lead safety visits/audits including any conducted by OSHA
  • Conduct and coordinate emergency response training drills
  • Keep all SDS materials up to date
  • Support a sustainable safety culture by engaging the workforce through hazard recognition process and providing support and assistance on EHS procedures
  • Facilitate safety operational excellence (OE) improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate and conduct emergency response and training drills
  • Coordinate with internal experts to properly plan and document safe usage and discharge of hazardous chemicals and waste
  • Manage cross-functional teams in the implementation of ergonomics programs
  • Perform indoor air and noise assessments
  • Act as program administrator (or champion) for OSHA required programs such as respiratory protection, hazard communication, hearing conservation, lockout/tagout, forklift safety, safety glasses, etc.
  • Support and comply with the company Quality System, ISO, and medical device requirements
  • Read, understand, follow, and create work instructions and standard work
  • Partner with other business segments:  sales/marketing, customer service, engineering, quality, and finance
  • Participate in the Operational Excellence Program
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment

Qualifications

Safety Specialist Qualifications

  • 2 years of related work experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to travel between Anoka and Coon Rapids
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Ability to influence cross functional teams
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize

 Safety Specialist Desirable Criteria & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Occupational Health and safety, Safety Engineering, or related discipline
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 or related Safety Certifications
  • Continuing Education; including participation in local chapters, associations, and/or organizations
